Installation at Juana and Moncho's

Juana and Moncho are the grandparents of Alex Hernandez, a young man from Mastatal who participated in the SEI workshop. Moncho is in the process of building a new house for him, his wife, and their daughter to live in. The family currently lives in another location a few miles away. Their current house is in poor condition and has flooding problems. During the rainy season, the roads to the house are bad and hard to navigate. juana and moncho's siteThe location where the family is moving is on the same property as their bean fields. It’s located at the bottom of a hill leading up to the road, which is in much better condition than the road near their current home. In addition, the new house will have a beautiful view of the family’s land and will benefit from better air flow, which can help keep the house cool during the hot summer months.

Juana and Moncho’s daughter lives with them for health reasons. She occasionally has to travel to San Jose for medical treatments. Juana and Moncho have several other children who are grown and have moved away, so unfortunately they don’t receive much help with caring for their daughter who is ill. Beacuse of her condition, sometimes it is necessary for the family to be up late at night. It is important that the family can have quick access to lighting in case there is an emergency. It would be too expensive for the family to connect their new home to the local grid, so a solar lighting system was installed for the family. Their grandson, Alex, will help them maintain the system and keep it in working order.
